Clinica Vivir con Diabetes

Share | print

In Bolivia, the human and economic costs of diabetes are an increasingly significant burden, exacerbated by the country's constrained health care budget. Clinica Vivir con Diabetes was established in 2001 in Cochabamba, the country's third-largest city, where approximately 10 percent of the residents suffer from diabetes. It provides integrated health care for low-income adults and children with diabetes, along with lifestyle education, nutrition counseling and medicine. Supported by the Abbott Fund and Direct Relief International (DRI), the clinic's goal is to reach people when they are first diagnosed with diabetes, to both control the disease and to prevent serious visual, neural and circulatory problems.

The Abbott Fund provides support to Clinica Vivir con Diabetes through its partner DRI.
